Our farm was established after we moved to South Carolina from the west coast to help our son get the best education for a special needs child.  We put Chris in Hidden Treasure Christian School and the school has been great for Chris and his family.  After we started looking for good fresh food we found we had a problem. The food was raised with a lot of chemicals that weren't good for our son and/or trucked in from some faraway place and tasted old and stale.  So, we started growing much of the food we needed for the family and then added more for friends. We now have a small flock of heritage turkeys and chickens, a group of Tamworth heritage pigs, some goats and bees. We also have a 80 foot long greenhouse full of different things, a large garden and some patches of wheat, rye, oats and barley that we let the pigs and deer harvest.

On 1-1-2008 we changed the farm name to Welch and Son Farm for a couple of good reasons:

1. My Dad died of a heart attack on 12-7-06 and he was the person I was always going to for help and feedback for all my problems.  Without him I would not now know or understand most of the concepts of  Sustainable farming, and I miss his words and hugs.

2. Having the boys as part of  the name puts a point of ownership on their mind.

3. We replaced the egg layers with Turkeys and Meat birds.

4. The farm name is a postive as Broken Wing was always looking to be fixed.
